Boiler Repair in Newtown, PA
Newtown splits its heating: 16% on oil, 56% on gas. Both feed boilers, and the two are different machines to own.
In brief
Fuel oil heats 16% of homes in Newtown, a substantial minority alongside gas at 56%. Which one a property burns decides the trade as much as the fault does, because an oil burner is a serviced appliance and a gas boiler is a different machine with different controls.

How Newtown heats
Both fuels feed boilers and both burn indoors, so both can produce carbon monoxide when combustion or venting goes wrong. CPSC’s guidance does not vary by fuel: alarms on every level and outside sleeping areas, and annual professional service.
| Households in Newtown | Share |
|---|---|
| Fuel oil and kerosene | 16% |
| Gas — mains and bottled | 56% |
| Electricity | 26% |
| Wood, coal, solar or no fuel | 2% |
Across the 274 towns we cover in Pennsylvania, 19% of households heat with oil. Newtown sits about level with that.

The table counts what a household burns, not what burns it. A furnace and a boiler on the same fuel are one number here, and we do not pretend otherwise.
Carbon monoxide
A CO alarm is not a smoke alarm and the two are not interchangeable. CPSC asks for CO alarms specifically, placed on every level and outside where people sleep — not in the kitchen and not directly above a burner.

Hot water or steam
Knowing whether the system is hot water or steam saves a visit. A steam boiler has a sight glass and a low water cutoff; a hot water boiler has a circulator, an expansion tank and a pressure gauge worth reading. Almost nothing that is true of one is true of the other.
DOE regulates them separately too, at slightly different AFUE minimums by fuel and type.

What to ask whoever comes
Ask whether the fault was diagnosed or inferred. "It is probably the circulator" and "the circulator is drawing no current" are different sentences, and only one of them justifies a part.

Checking a plumber in Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania has no state license for plumbers. Its Department of Labor and Industry states it has no jurisdiction and keeps no records of which municipalities require one, so the only reliable answer is your own city or township. Start here. Ask the contractor which municipality licenses them and confirm it with that office before work begins.
A boiler is not a furnace, and the person you want knows the difference.Tell us it is a boiler, tell us what the gauge reads if you can see it, and we will route you to somebody in your area who works on them. You are never charged. Should other work in Newtown need doing, say it on the call.
