Hot water or steam

Radiators tell you too. A steam radiator has one pipe, or two, and a small vent that hisses; a hot water radiator has a pipe in and a pipe out and a bleed screw at the top. It is a ten-second check and it decides half the diagnosis.

What to ask whoever comes

Ask whether the temperature control was commissioned or merely fitted. DOE requires an automatic means for adjusting water temperature on hot water boilers, and a control nobody set up delivers none of what it is for.
