Look for a sight glass. A short vertical tube of water on the side of the boiler means steam, and with it a low water cutoff that has to be checked. No sight glass, a pressure gauge and a small pump on a pipe means hot water.

Ask whether the fault was diagnosed or inferred. "It is probably the circulator" and "the circulator is drawing no current" are different sentences, and only one of them justifies a part.
